REVIEW OF THE 2002 CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2002 Wimbledon Championships was another huge success and a victorious occasion for the favourites.

Lleyton hewitt thrashed David Nalbandian to claim his first Wimbledon title and emphatically underscore his status as the new dominant force in men's tennis. The top seed stormed his way to the final winning 6-1, 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and 57 minutes.

The Ladies' Championship was dominated from start to finish, as expected, by the incredible Williams sisters, but it was Serena who confirmed her position as the world number one by beating her sister Venus to claim a first Wimbledon title. The younger of the sisters looked sharper throughout the match and was ahead from the early stages as she ended Venus' dreams of a third successive championship.

In the men's doubles it was Australia's Todd Woodbridge and Sweden's Jonas Bjorkman, the number five seeds who beat Mark Knowles, of the Bahamas, and Canada's Daniel Nestor 6-1, 6-2, 6-7, (7-9), 7-5.

The Williams sisters captured the Ladies's Doubles title for the second time in three years when they beat French Open champions Paola Suarez and Virginia Ruano Pascual 6-2, 7-5 in one hour and 20 minutes.
